The Conference will be at the Whistler Conference Centre, Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. (Take a virtual tour of the Whistler Conference Centre)

Whistler is a winter ski resort and summer tourist destination located 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Vancouver.  The 2010 Olympic Winter Games  will be held in Vancouver and Whistler.  Vancouver will host most indoor events such as ice skating, hockey and curling while Whistler will host most of the outdoor ski events.

Surrounded by majestic mountains and blessed with superb facilities, Whistler is the ideal for MCDM 2004. Whistler Village provides a wide assortment of reasonable accommodation within easy walking distance of the Whistler Conference Centre.  Within the Village and nearby, there are over 80 restaurants that provide all varieties of international cuisine

Outdoor activities abound, so plan to stay a few extra days to enjoy them.  Whistler has four championship designer golf courses, tennis, biking, horseback riding, heli-skiing, river rafting, canoe excursions, and plentiful hiking trails. Shopping in the Whistler Village, Upper Village and Whistler North (all within walking distance) is superb.  There are over 150 shops and boutiques open seven days per week. As well, Whistler is central for very scenic driving tours throughout beautiful BC.

Getting to Whistler

Whistler is located approximately one and a half hours north of Vancouver and four and a half hours from Seattle. An International Airport serves Vancouver, and once you have landed it is relatively simple to get to Whistler.

The main way to get to Whistler is by road.  There are car rental firms at the airport and there is a bus service to and from Whistler.  .  If numbers permit, conference organizers will charter buses from Vancouver to Whistler: MCDM 2004 Chartered Buses.  The following description describes the route from the airport to Whistler.

Upon emerging from the airport follow the signs that say “Vancouver”.  The road curves to the left over Arthur Laing Bridge and the Fraser River.  Get into the right lane, because the first exit to the right is the easiest way to Vancouver.  Soon after taking the right exit, the road turns right onto Granville street.  You will follow Granville Street directly into Vancouver via Granville Street Bridge.  Directions from downtown Vancouver are given after the following paragraph

If you are approaching Vancouver from Seattle via highway 99 North, you will eventually cross the Fraser River via the Oak Street Bridge.  The route can get a bit tricky, as once across the Oak Street Bridge, you will notice that cross streets will all be numbered in descending order from 73rd St. down. When you reach the 41st Street intersection turn left and travel west until you see the next major intersection - Granville Street. Turn right and head north on Granville, which will lead you over the Granville Street Bridge into downtown Vancouver (approximately 6 km.).

While on the Granville Street Bridge, shift over to the far right lane and take the Seymour Street exit. Travel north on Seymour (approx. 1 km) until you hit Georgia Street, and turn left. Georgia Street will take you in a westerly direction to Stanley Park and out of downtown Vancouver.  At the end of Georgia Street the road turns right into Stanley Park.  As you approach this area, make sure you stay in one of the two left lanes so that you go through Stanley Park and not into it.  Upon emerging from Stanly Park, you go over the Lions Gate suspension bridge. Whistler-bound travelers will circle around and exit via the Marine Drive West turnoff. Once on Marine Drive get in the right-hand lane, as you will be making the first right onto Taylor Way.  After driving up Taylor Way hill, turn left onto Highway 1 West, and follow the signs to Whistler via Highway 99. If you require a map of Vancouver, Click here..  To view other maps and tourism information about Vancouver, click here.

Once on Highway 99 you are heading North via the Sea to Sky Highway. This takes you past Horseshoe Bay (a terminal for car ferries to Vancouver Island) and through Squamish before Whistler.
